Causo rules MCC chess
MANILA, Philippines - NM Deniel Causo drew his fifth and final match with Randy Segarra to rule the MCC Open standard chess category while Juan Carlos Presente won the kiddies down at the Jollibee-Times Plaza on Taft Ave. over the weekend.
Causo actually finished tied for first with No. 7 Sherwin Tiu with 4.5 points but took the title with a superior tiebreak score.
Tiu, who also drew his final round match with Leodegario Ricana, settled for runner-up honors.
Segarra wound up tied for third with Emmanuel Emperado and Merben Roque with four points each.
Rounding up the top 10 winners were Ricana, NM Dante Zuniga, Willy San Juan and Paul Garcia. Mac-lean Garcia and Simone del Rosario of UP emerged the top unrated players.
In the kiddies 12-under tilt, Presente beat eight-year-old Pancratius Ventura to bag the title with 4.5 points in this MCC monthly chessfest.
Tied for second with four points were Jade Agustin and Stephen Miranda. Agustin upended Juan Miguel Padrigue while Miranda downed Samson Lim III.
Meanwhile, the next MCC standard two-day tourney and one-day event for kiddies 12-under and 1850 below category will be held Aug. 21-22, also at Times Plaza.
