Go snaps Tiu's romp in national drag racing
MANILA, Philippines - Anthony Go of JCT-Blanche Racing captured the overall Pro Class crown of the 2010 Magnolia Purewater National Drag Racing Championship Series, which ended recently at the Clark International Speedway.
Go wrapped up his campaign with 75 points in this series sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines (AAP) and supported by Yokohama Tires, San Miguel Corp., Pagcor Sports, Aeromed, Chequered Flag and Stoplight TV.
He was actually an underdog in the final showdown against Edwin Cayco of H3 Autoworks in this race, which also served as the opening round of the 2010 Northern Series Philippine Drag Racing Championships.
Cayco was the day’s fastest bet as he ousted Ian Borromeo on his first run clocking 9.940 seconds and got into the finals turning back Norman dela Peña with a time of 10.319 seconds.
Go, on the other hand, faced fuel injection problems prior to the race proper and barely escaped with a time of 11.477 against the American muscle car of John Ryzia who clocked 11.745 to claim the other finals slot.
However, Cayco succumbed to a red light violation in their title duel as Go romped to victory with a time of 11.560 to emerge the first drag racer to win the crown outside of the deposed six-time champion Jonathan Tiu who was still recuperating from a previous accident.
