JAKARTA – Rookie Veronica Belleza and comebacking Syrel Ramos combined in fashioning out a no-hit, no-run performance as the Philippine Blu Girls blanked Indonesia Putih, 10-0, in only four innings in the ASEAN women’s softball championship Thursday night at the Senayan ballpark here.
Belleza and Ramos shackled the 12 batters they faced with a dazzling mix of pitches while their teammates backed them up with 11 hits off three Indonesian hurlers, five of them in the decisive third inning where they scored four runs.
Sarah Agravante, one of nine players from Adamson, highlighted the four-run binge with a two-run homer.
Belleza actually broke the ice for the Blu Girls when she singled in Marlyn Francisco before the team completed the rout in a fitting follow-up to their 15-0 thrashing of Malaysia a day before behind the exploits of Julie Marie Muyco.
The Blu Girls were playing Indonesia Merah, the host country’s national squad, in the lower half of a two-game schedule late yesterday.
