LBP outplays NBI in PGEA Chess Cup

MANILA, Philippines - Land Bank of the Philippines nipped National Bureau of Investigation in the tiebreak to rule the third PGEA 2010 Chess Cup at Veterans Memorial Medical Center in Quezon City recently.

LBP and NBI finished tied on top but the former, composed of Paulo Parel, Cyrus Atienza, Garlan Limbo, Macario Sayson, Cesar Cabanes, Edgar Labre and Amelito Perlata, won the crown via the winner-over-the-other rule. Dept. of Interior and Local Gov’t finished third.

The individual winners were Sam Estallo of DILG, Esperidion Curugan of NBI, Garlan Anthony Limbo of LBP, Macario Sayson of LBP, Jovito Ramirez of VMMC, Renato Marcos of NBI and Eduardo Balague of BTR.

Meanwhile, Jonathan Navarro of DENR topped the double round-robin blitz chess in the event organized by the Phil. Government Employees Association (PGEA) headed by chairman Nick Suarez of PCGG and Nonong Erispe of VMMC, and supervised by arbiter Gatz Luz of the Chess Arbiters Association of the Phils (CAAP).
