Tan scores sweep anew in Yokohama GT race
MANILA, Philippines - William Tan scored his second straight victory in the 2010 Yokohama Philippine Grand Touring (GT) Championships to firm up his hold of the lead at the Clark International Speedway recently.
Tan bucked heavy rain and Mike Tuason’s challenge throughout the 22-lap final race. He timed 27 minutes and 0.212 seconds, 5.277 seconds ahead of Tuason who also bagged the GT300 crown over TRS-Castrol’s Bjorn Ongtiabok and 17-year-old Nigel Cuesta.
Tan likewise claimed the GT200 crown over Joey Perry, who also ended third overall in the race, and third placer Dennis Uy of SEAOIL-Velocity Motors.
Perry actually took control in the first 13 laps until Tan caught up on him and held on to his post from thereon. Tuason overtook Perry in the 15 lap and went on to challenge Tan for the lead.
The event was sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines and sponsored by Yokohama Tires, PAGCOR Sports, Aeromed, Chequered Flag, and Stoplight TV.
Sean Redpath checked in fifth and led TRS-Castrol’s 1-2-3 finish in the GT125 class together with runner-up Ding Dizon and third placer Bobby Noriega in both the Sprint and Final races.
Earlier, Tan ruled the GT Sprint Race over Perry and Tuason.
