NCAA upholds Letran protest

- Joey Villar -

MANILA, Philippines - The NCAA Management Committee forfeited yesterday reigning titlist San Beda’s won game over Letran Wednesday after one of its cagers was found to have worn a uniform missing a logo of a league sponsor.

The Red Cubs drew the forfeiture after MVP candidate Baser Amer was found wearing the wrong jersey in San Beda’s 86-71 blowout of Letran Wednesday at The Arena.

The decision was based on the recommendation of commissioner Aric del Rosario.

“The Mancom decided to forfeit that game and San Beda gracefully accepted the decision,” said Mancom chair Frank Gusi after an emergency meeting yesterday.

With the forfeiture, San Beda slid to 1-3.

The Red Cubs kept a share of the lead, though, as the San Sebastian Staglets suffered a 72-75 heartbreaker to Mapua yesterday.

The NCAA ManCom cited violation of rules 6.1, 6.5 which stated that all “athletes shall wear the official playing team uniform in all the games/matches of the NCAA Season”.
