Samsung Amateur slated at Eastridge
MANILA, Philippines - Former National Tournament of Club Champions winner Park Jung-soo and junior standout Lawrence Celestino head the cast in the Samsung Amateur Golf Open today and tomorrow at the challenging Eastridge Golf Club course in Binangonan, Rizal.
Park, a mainstay of the Eastridge Fed League squad, and Celestino, Philippine champion of the Faldo Series, are expected to slug it out for the championship division honors along with brothers Aristeo and Agustin Mata and Jet Mathay who are among the single-handicappers entered.
There are more than 90 registrants for the 36-hole tourney which will feature competitions in five different handicap brackets in the men’s division and three in the ladies category.
Major tournament sponsors are Glucos Care, A Round of Golf, Inquirer Golf, Omnisource International, International Armouring Corp. and BCLN Golf.
Minor sponsors are Dynamic Sports and Leisure, Titleist, Custom Clubmakers, ABW Leaves of Life, CranUTI and Gargol.
Up for grabs are Samsung laptops and a P100,000 cash prize for a hole-in-one feat and water-proof cellular phones for all division champions.
Leading the entries in the ladies side are Inez del Rosario and Jonah Ilagan and former junior standout Matet Salivio.
In the men’s division, the championship group is for those with handicaps of 0-3.9, Class A for 4 to 8.9, Class B for 9 to 14.9, Class C for 15-21.9 and Class D for 21 and above. In the ladies side, Class A is for 0 to 8.9, Class B for 9 to 19.9 and Class C for 20 and above.
