Lovelynn, Cyna set up QF duel

-

MANILA, Philippines – Lovelynn Guioguio and Cyna Rodriguez fashioned out a pair of lopsided victories to arrange a quarterfinal showdown in the 109th PNGA (Pacific Northwest Golf Association) Women’s Amateur Championship Match Play at the Clarkston Golf and Country Club in Clarkston, Washington Wednesday.

Chihiro Ikeda also thumped her first two rivals in the knockout stage in easy fashions to join her ICTSI-backed teammates in the Last 8.

Guioguio, who finished joint second in the 36-hole stroke play elims, booted out Beth Wrigley, 6&4, of Washington in the morning duel then whipped Brenda Jesemig, also of Washington, 5&4, in the afternoon match to advance to the quarters.

Rodriguez matched Guioguio’s romp with a 7&6 rout of Monica Epler in the first round then overpowered Alison Quinlan, 6&4, to set up an all-Filipino clash for a berth in the semis.

Ikeda, meanwhile, launched her bid with a 7&6 victory over Allyssa Nilsson then outplayed Kaitlen Parsons, 4&3, to arrange a quarters showdown with No. 14 Pamela Burneski, who posted a pair of 1-up wins over Kaitlen Oster and Chessey Thomas to advance.

The other quarter pairings pit top seed Rachel Morris against Amelia Hill and Amanda Jacobs versus Caitlin McCleary.

But while Guioguio, Rodriguez and Ikeda frolicked to keep RP-ICTSI bid for a second straight title after Dottie Ardina reigned here last year, teammate Bambee dela Paz faltered in the Last 16 when he dropped a 3&2 setback to Hill. Dela Paz edged Stephanie Corey, 1-up, in the first round.
