Guiogio, 3 others in PNGA matchplay
MANILA, Philippines - Lovelynn Guioguio shot a two-over par 74 and finished tied for second in the 36-hole stroke play elims of the 109th PNGA (Pacific Northwest Golf Association) Women’s Amateur Championship at the Clarkston Golf and Country Club in Clarkston, Washington Tuesday.
Three other ICTSI-RP bets safely made it to the match play phase of the annual event with reigning RP Ladies Open champion Cyna Rodriguez sharing sixth place with Chihiro Ikeda and Bambee dela Paz clinching ninth spot among the 32 survivors.
Rodriguez recovered from an opening 79 with a one-over 73 as she tied a faltering Ikeda, who groped for form with a 78 after a 74 for identical 152s while dela Paz fumbled with a 77 but still made it through with a 157.
Guioguio, fresh from her successful stint in the US Women’s Amateur section qualifier in Hawaii, takes on Beth Wrigley of Washington in the first round of the knockout phase.
Rodriguez battles Monica Epler, also of Washington; Ikeda collides with Allysa Nilsson of Idaho; while De la Paz tangles with Stephanie Corey, also of Washington.
Meanwhile, Mia Piccio joined ICTSI teammate Guioguio in the US Women’s Amateur as she finished second in the sectional qualifier in North Carolina last Tuesday.
Piccio, one of the three US-based scholars of ICTSI, fired two birdies against a bogey for a one-under 71, three shots behind Katherine Perry, Catherine O’Donnell and Callie Nielson.
