Guioguio takes US Women's Am berth
MANILA, Philippines - Lovelynn Guioguio fired a four-under par 68 to clinch a berth in the US Women’s Amateur Championship slated Aug. 9-15 at Charlotte Country Club in North Carolina.
A mainstay of the ICTSI golf squad, Guioguio knocked down six birdies to negate her two-bogey mishap at the Waikoloa King’s Course and gain one of the two slots in the tournament proper featuring the world’s leading amateurs.
Kacie Komoto took the other berth with a 69.
Guioguio, who teamed up with Chihiro Ikeda to capture the New Zealand Stroke Play Championship recently, will be among a record 1,049 entries competing in the US Women’s Amateur, marking the first time the USGA has received more than 1,000 entries for the event.
Thirty-eight players are currently fully exempt into the championship while 20 others became fully exempt when they qualified for the just concluded US Women’s Open.
The remainder of the field of 156 players will be filled via sectional qualifiers with the other ICTSI bets, including Dottie Ardina, Ikeda and reigning RP Ladies champion Cyna Rodriguez, expected to vie for berths.
Rodriguez reached the Last 16 in last year’s US Women’s Amateur, dropping a 2 and 1 decision to Alexis Thompson of Florida.
