MANILA, Philippines - The Association of Firearms and Ammunition Dealers (AFAD) will give a citation to the A2S5 Coalition during the opening rites of the 18th Defense and Sporting Arms Show (DSAS) on July 15 at the SM Megamall in Mandaluyong.
AFAD president Hector Rodriguez said at least 17 members of the A2S5 Coalition, who took part in the Second National Firearms Control Summit last June 4 in Camp Crame to air their side over proposals to implement a permanent gun ban by authorities following the conduct of the May 10 elections, will be cited during the show.
This year’s gun show will have “Gun Ownership: A Lifetime Responsibility” as its theme.
Formed a few weeks before the firearms control summit, the A2S5 Coalition is a multi-sectoral group which upholds Filipino citizen’s right to defend themselves against criminality. It stands for Article 2 Section 5 of the 1987 Philippine Constitution that highlights the right of every citizen to live peacefully.
Among those who represented the A2S5 Coalition are the group’s spokespersons Constantino “Banjo” Navarro and Raul Reyes; Manila Regional Trial Court Judge Marilou Tamang (judiciary); Cagayan Rep. Jack Enrile (Philippine Practical Shooters Association); Edwin Peter Lim (business); Teodoro Bonifacio (environmentalist); Prosecutor Jonathan Lledo (Prosecutors League); Nereo Dionisio (AFAD); and TV newscaster Miguel Emmanuel Gil (media).
