TRAP, BikeKing stage long distance triathlon

MANILA, Philippines - Triathletes wanting to take on new challenge will have their chance as Triathlon Association of the Philippines (TRAP) joins hands with BikeKing in staging the TRIKing Long Distance Triathlon on July 25 at Matabungkay Beach Resort and Hotel (MBRH) in Lian, Batangas.

BikeKing is the lead organizer with TRAP providing the race technical officials in the punishing event - 2K swim, 60K bike and 15K run - sponsored by PLDT, 100 Plus Drink, MBRH and The Philippine STAR. Other supporters are Summit Mineral Water, Polar Bottle, Orbea, Corratec, Knog and Kerima.

The event marks the start of the long distance racing season as the sport returns to its original homes, the Matabungkay Beach.

“Matabungkay played host to triathlon when the sport was in its early stages and we are glad that the Matabungkay Beach Resort and Hotel, through its GM Rico Violeta, is renewing its interest and partnership with TRAP for the future development of the sport using the longer distance event,” said Raul Cuevas, TRAP director and BikeKing executive.

Cuevas and TRAP executive director Rick Reyes, along with Violeta and marketing manager Josie Oliveros, inspected the race course, which will feature tough routes as well as scenic views.

The race starts with a three-loop swim leg at the rectangular course at the clear waters of Sea Breeze Resort, while the bike leg is a two-loop race at the National Highway towards Calatagan with the hilly portion from the turn-around point in Lian going to Altura Junction the most challenging part.

The race winds up with a three-loop run leg with triathletes on a slightly winding rough cement and dirt road through the sugarcane and rice fields of Matabungkay.
