MANILA, Philippines - William Tan put one over Mike Tuason of TRS-Castrol to rule the third leg of the 2010 Yokohama Philippine Grand Touring (GT) Championships at the Batangas Racing Circuit in Batangas recently.
Tan raced consistently all throughout and pounced on Tuason’s misfortunes to pound out his first victory in the event sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines.
Tuason had to start last in the morning’s Sprint race being underweight during the weigh-in, thus giving Tan the luxury to dictate the pace throughout.
Tuason quickly jumped to fourth at the start of the race then moved to second to challenge Tan until the ninth lap when his engine started to falter, enabling Tan to zoom to victory in the event sponsored by Yokohama Tires, Pagcor Sports, Aeromed, Chequered Flag, and Stoplight TV.
Tan wrapped up the 12-lap race in 23 minutes and 31.725 seconds as he also ruled the GT200 class over Dennis Uy of SEAOIL-Velocity Motors who also finished third overall in the race.
Tuason, despite the engine trouble, finished second overall 14.727 seconds behind Tan. He also topped the GT300 class over Bobby Noriega and third placer Leo Anthony San Juan.
Ding Dizon of TRS-Castrol checked in fourth overall as he took the GT125 honors over Sean Redpath and Veli-Mati Kaikkonen.
