MANILA, Philippines - Mike Peña and Larry Salangsang turned in identical net 68s to top their respective divisions in the Architects Golf Club monthly tournament at the Valley Golf Club’s south course in Antipolo last Monday.
Peña, a 15-handicapper, shot a gross 83 to beat Ike Madamba, who had a net 71 from a gross 86, by three while Jojo Salcedo placed third with a net 72 from a gross 87.
Salangsang, on the other hand, carded a gross 86 for a net 68 as he nipped Samson Enriquez by one for the Group 2 title. Enriquez, who had a gross 89, edged Winston Lao, who also made a gross 89 for a net 69, in the countback for runner-up honors in the tournament backed by Boysen Paints as major sponsors.
Mark Soriquez, Cadio San Juan and Stephen Sy all fired net 69s from gross 94 but Soriquez beat the duo in the countback for the Group 3 crown. San Juan also nipped Sy for second in the event supported by Koten, Megacem, Inc., Samitrade Marble & Granite, Inc., Wilcon Builders, New Pesa Metal Corp., Anjumay, Inc. (Fujiair & Fujiwater), APCO/Don Builders, Toto Asia Oceania Pte. Ltd., Apo Floors/Apo Galfan and Ayin Contractor.
Nestor Reyes, Paeng Villanueva and Boy Katigbak also shot identical 69s from grosses of 97, 98 and 95, respectively, with Reyes clinching the Group 4 plum in the countback. Villanueva also edged Katigbak in the countback for runner-up honors.
Bobby Chua, on the other hand, ran away with the Group 5 crown as he carded a net 66 from a gross 98 for a four-shot win over Francis Romualdez, who had a gross 102 and a net 70. Anthony Barretto placed third with a net 73 from a gross 105.
