MANILA, Philippines - Eduard Folayang pulled off a stunning victory over fancied Egon Racz of Slovakia in the Martial Combat 4 at Singapore’s famous Resorts World before a big crowd last week.
Showing the form that won him several gold medals in the SEA Games and a silver medal in the World Cup, the wushu expert defeated Racz via guillotine to kick off his campaign in the tournament that drew some of the world’s leading mixed martial arts (MMA) competitors.
The most decorated fighter of the Universal Reality Combat Championship (URCC), Folayang needed just four minutes and 30 seconds to dispatch his rival in their 70kg showdown.
“Folayang’s victory just showed that our fighters are now at par with some of the finest MMA bets. Hopefuly, in a few years, we can send a couple of fighters in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC),” said URCC founder and president Alvin Aguilar.
Meanwhile, flyweight Jasor Ablasi, who is also of Lakay Wushu, stunned American Andrew Leonne in just 59 seconds of the first round via a rear naked choke.
The victory, however, did not come easy for Folayang, who had to dig deeper into his bag of tricks to overpower his rival, one of the best Muay Thai specialists.
