Jumapao bags all-events in international bowling tourney

-

MANILA, Philippines - Youthful Jomar Jumapao bagged the men’s Class O all-events and doubles titles – with Kenneth Chua – to cap Day 13 of the 39th Philippine International Open Tenpin Bowling Championships at the Paeng’s Midtown Bowl Friday night.

The 20-year-old diminutive Cebuano stood out and was the toast of the bowling center inside the Robinson’s Place in Ermita, Manila by capturing two titles in the face of a powerhouse field of local and foreign bowlers.

A masters bronze medalist in the eighth Asian Schools championship in Jakarta, Indonesia in April, Jumapao ruled the Class O all-events with a 1568 aggregate through a 679, 453 and 436 in the singles, doubles and trios play.

He pocketed P4,000 for his winning efforts, while MTBA’s Francis Manalaysay (1495) and TBAM-Prima’s Frederick Ong (1479) earned P2,500 and P1,500 in placing second and third, respectively, in the tourney sponsored by UPHS Dalta and Jonelta Systems, Pagcor Sports, DOT, PSC, PCSO, Amway, Timberpro and Colgate Palmolive.

Jumapao also teamed up with fellow national pool member Chua in copping the men’s Class O doubles with an 893 output, 15 pins better than the runner-up Malaysian duo of Kelvin Keong and Kang Bo Long (878) and 30 pins up on South Korea’s Ji Hyun Cha and Jong Yoon Won (863), who placed third.
