Angping Cup slated at PSC
MANILA, Philippines - Buoyed by the success of the first-ever PSC chairman Harry Angping Cup held last month, the National Chess Federation of the Philippines and the Philippine Sports Commission will jointly host the Angping Cup age-group rapid chess tournament June 24 at the PSC Canteen inside the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Vito Cruz, Manila.
The one-day, seven-round event will also be held as part of the annual “Araw ng Maynila” celebrations.
The participants will be divided into three categories: Under 20, Under 16 and Under 12.
The champions in each category will win P20,000 plus trophy.
The runners-up and the third placers will pocket P10,000 and P8,000, respectively.
Other cash prizes at stake are P6,000 (fourth placer), P5,000 (fifth), P4,000 (sixth), P3,000 (seventh), P2,000 (eighth), P1,500 (ninth), P1,000 (10th) and P500 (11th up to 20th).
The tournament will start at 10 a.m. with the opening ceremony to be held later at 2 p.m.
Angping, NCFP president/chairman Prospero “Butch” Pichay, NCFP secretary-general and Tagaytay City Mayor Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino and Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim are expected to grace the occasion.
Time control is 20 minutes with three seconds increment.
Deadline for registration is June 23 at the NCFP headquarters in ULTRA in Pasig.
