Mayor Belmonte Cup swim meet up

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Swimming League is holding the second Sonny Belmonte Cup age group swimming championships June 26, at 7 a.m., at the Amoranto swimming pool on Roces Ave, Quezon City.

On tap in the meet, held in cooperation with the Amoranto Sports Complex under administrator Andy Apostol, are competitions in 6 years-and-under, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14 and 15-17 age groups.

The event is open to all clubs and swimmers.

Over 250 swimmers from clubs and schools as far as Pampanga and Laguna are expected to compete in the competition hosted by the PSL under founder Theresa Alvarez and president Susan Papa as part of the grassroots development program of the Quezon City government and the Aquatic Sports Association of the Philippines under lawyer Ma. Luz Arzaga-Mendoza.

The tournament is sponsored by Mayor Belmonte, incoming Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte, Darren Evangelista, Chito Rivera, Little Town Bookstore and parents of the Susan Papa Swimming Academy.

“We are happy that the rest of the month is filled up with competitions for beginners and regular competitive swimming,” said Papa. “We thank Mayor Belmonte for his full support.”
