RTU foils host, retains Penang invitational crown

MANILA, Philippines - Rizal Technological University outsteadied Penang Sukma State in a high-scoring game, 118-110, to retain the Bagan Samak Invitational Championship crown in Penang, Malaysia recently.

The Blue Tigers bucked the hostile crowd at the Bagan Samak gym and frustrated the Penang’s youthful shooters with their tough defense to complete its back-to-back title run in the annual event, which drew the Sukma State and commercial teams.

“It was really a nice feeling to win another international championship. We practically didn’t have any summer break to prepare for this,” said coach Beaujing Acot.

The Mandaluyong-based university’s campaign was backed by RTU president, Dr. Jose Macaballug.

Other backers of the Blue Tiges were RTU vice president Dr. Jesus Torres, vice president Dr. Hemry Agong, Dr. Doris Tulio, Mayor Benhur Abalos, Rep. Boyet Gonzales, Rep. Joel Villanueva (Cibac Partylist, Rep. Prospero Pichay, Mayor Bobby Eusebio, Jean Henri Lhuillier, Danny Francisco, Kaloy Valera, Susan Kanai and PSC chair Harry Angping.
