Jumapao, Sy top youth masters tilt
MANILA, Philippines - Cebuanos Jomar Jumapao and Alexis Sy stamped their class Wednesday to bag the boys’ and girls’ youth masters crowns of the 39th Philippine International Open Tenpin Bowling Championships at the Paeng’s Midtown Bowl inside the Robinson’s Place in Ermita, Manila.
A masters bronze medalist in the eighth Asian Schools tourney in Jakarta, Indonesia last April, BTA-Prima’s Jumapao, 20, racked up a 10-game series of 2013 pinfalls in the finals to best TBAM-Prima’s Kevin Cu (1986) by 27 pins in taking home P20,000.
Cu settled for the runner-up purse of 10,000 while TBAM-Prima-RP’s Ederick Florencio (1971) took third and P5,000 in the kegfest sponsored by UPHS Dalta and Jonelta Systems, Pagcor Sports, DOT, PSC, PCSO, Amway, Timberpro and Colgate Palmolive.
On the other hand, TBAM-Prima-RP’s Sy garnered a 10-game series of 2002, lording it over fellow national pool teammate and world women’s championship veteran Kim Lao (1950) in pocketing the first prize of P15,000.
Lao earned P8,000 for her efforts and PBAP-Bowlmart’s Anne Ramirez (1933) got P4,000 for bagging third place in the tournament organized by the Philippine Bowling Congress.
Inspired after pocketing the boys’ youth masters plum, Jumapao had a big day and moved up prominently in three categories of the tilt also sanctioned by Asian Bowling Federation and the World Tenpin Bowling Association.
