MANILA, Philippines - Musong Castillo of Inquirer scored a net 67 to rule the Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) President’s Cup on Wednesday at the Veterans Golf Club in Quezon City.
Castillo’s net score was actually matched by Bulletin sports editor Ding Marcelo, but the former claimed top honors via countback in the tournament presented by the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) and supported by the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA), San Miguel Beer, Talk ‘N Text, Coca-Cola, Rain or Shine, Alaska Milk, Air21, Harbour Centre and ICTSI.
The event was also backed by the National Golf Association of the Philippines and the Veterans Golf Club management. Tempo sports editor Rey Bancod clinched third place with a net 75, edging Inquirer sports ed Teddyvic Melendres, who had a 76.
Lito Tacujan, The STAR sports editor, and Ernie Gonzales of Inquirer both scored 78.
While the battle in the premier division went down the wire, Class B had a runaway winner in Dante Navarro of The STAR, who scored a net 78 to win by six.
Tribune sports ed Aldrin Cardona came in second with an 84 while Aldrin Quinto of Business Mirror had a net 86 for third.
