All-Star tiff marks end of UFL season

MANILA, Philippines - An All-Star game, featuring local and foreign selections, will highlight the closing rites of the LBC-United Football League tomorrow at the Nomads Football Club pitch in Melville Park, Parañaque City.

Spearheaded by former National team captain Emelio “Chippy” Caligdong, Ian Araneta and Yanti Barsales and Kaya Digiprint skipper Aly Borromeo, the local side will take on the foreign group that included Iranian Izzeldin El Habbib, UFL top scorer, and Rudy Project captain Avi Nii and the Ivory Coast duo of Ange Resor-Guisso and Remi Alaine Sery of Global Smartmatic.

Game time is at 7 p.m.

After the match, there will be awarding rites where the teams and players who stood out in eight-month long season featuring 16 of the country’s top clubs will be given recognation.

The Air Force Riders, coached by RP assistant coach Diding Cabalida, swept both UFL Cup and League honors in the event backed by LBC, Gatorade, Rudy Project, Globe, McDonald’s and Nike Park and Arthaland, the league’s newest supporter.

Kaya Digiprint captured second place in Division 1 of the League competition while Global Smartmatic ruled Division 2 with Nomads Aloha Board Sports taking runner-up spot.

The other sides that competed in the football showcase were Union Rudy Project, Loyola ATR Kim Eng, Army Phiten, Navy Selecta, Green Archers Orient Freight and Mendiola E Games in Division 1.

In Division 2 were Mama Africa, United South 2Go, Sunken Garden United FC, Lions Alaska, Japan K Line and Diliman Victory Liner.

Individual awards for Most Valuable Player, Best Striker, Best Defender and Best Goalie, among others, will also be handed in both divisions, on top of the Sportsmanship Award for the squad with the least yellow cards.

Those attending the affair will be in for an extra treat with the Nomads Clubhouse open for the rest of the evening to view World Cup matches scheduled for the day, complete with food and drinks.
