MANILA, Philippines - Sta. Elena pulled off another victory in down-to-the-wire fashion, edging Forest Hills, 151-150, to bag the Class A crown in the third leg of the WGAP (Women’s Golf Association of the Phils.) circuit at the Valley Golf Club in Antipolo last week.
Carina Ricamonte, a 7-handicapper, shot 42 points under the Modified Stableford system while Alice Jose, Therese Dabao and Bing Liboro added 40, 37 and 32 points for Sta. Elena, which nipped Alabang in the countback to rule the second leg at Alabang last month.
Sta. Elena also turned in a pair of third place finishes in Classes B and C as the Laguna-based squad underscored its readiness to contend for the overall crown in the annual event organized by WGAP.
Forest Hills drew a pair of 39 points from Nelda Roguel and Mi Hee Kwak and two 36s from Violy Pegels and Grace Atienza as it pooled a 150 for second while Tagaytay Highlands finished third with a 139.
Scorers for the Highlanders were Rosalie Heo and Virginia Bote, who had identical 37s, Emalina Flores (35) and Farah Imperial (30).
Josie Untal fired 39 points and won the individual plum while steering Aguinaldo to fourth place with a 138 while host Valley Golf wound up fifth with a 131 followed by Alabang (125), Manila Southwoods (123) and Canlubang (121).
Tagaytay Highlands, meanwhile, dominated Class B, assembling 157 points for a 20-point romp over Alabang, which had a 137, while Sta. Elena had 133 and edged Canlubang in the countback for third. Sta. Elena’s Nancy Ortiga copped the individual title with 39 points.
Canlubang placed fourth with 133 followed by Southwoods (129), Valley Golf (122) and Villamor (120).
Rosario Dimson and Mabek Kawsek led Highlands’ charge with 42 and 40 points, respectively, while Hedy See and Bernadette Wong backed them up with 39 and 36 points, respectively.
Aguinaldo, behind Edlyn Robas’ 47 points, also lorded it over the field in Class C, scoring 173 points and beating Forest Hills, which had a 149, by 24 points. Sta. Elena had a 138 for third. Other scorers for Aguinaldo were Anita Salivio (44), Laly Trinidad (43) and Belen Ampong (39).
Forest Hills’ Evelyn Alcantara made 51 points to capture the individual diadem.
Valley Golf finished fourth with a 137 followed by Canlubang (134), Tagaytay Highlands (133), Alabang (131), Villamor (123) and Southwoods (109).
