Pinay OFW grabs Class A singles in PBC

MANILA, Philippines - Filipina overseas worker Alyssa Corpuz stole the thunder from the big guns as she shot a three-game series of 607 to wrest the ladies’ Class A singles lead in the 39th Philippine International Open Tenpin Bowling Championships over the weekend.

A member of the Abu Dhabi Filipino Bowling Club in the United Arab Emirates, Corpuz had lines of 201, 214, 192, four pins up on PBAP-Bowlmart’s Anne Ramirez, who hit a 603 (182-181-140) at the Paeng’s Midtown Bowl at the Robinson’s Place in Ermita, Manila.

PBC secretary general and multi-titled Bong Coo, who held the lead for three consecutive days, slipped to third at 584 (190-213-181) in the event sponsored by UPHS Dalta and Jonelta Systems, Pagcor Sports, DOT, PSC, PCSO, Amway and Colgate Palmolive.

Corpuz banked on that 607 to go with her second three-game series of 569 as she moved ahead in the ladies Graded masters qualifying with a 1,176 aggregate, 52 pins ahead of Ramirez (1,124) while TBAM-Prima’s Eryn Laforteza was third (1,135).

The other qualifiers thus far were MBA’s Carmen Talosig, 4th, 1,066; MBA-Timberpro-Prima’s Coo, 5th, 1,064; TBAM-UPHS’s Grace Roces, 6th, 1,063, ATBA-CRMA’s Alice Cabazor, 7th, 1,050; TBAM-Prima-UPHS’s Girlie Solis, 8th, 1,049; MBA’s Merlen Pamintuan, 9th, 1,047; and PTBA’s Dina Basuel, 10th, 1,042.

On the other hand, Ramirez (1,256), Basuel (1,221) and Coo (1,215) were 1-2-3 in the ladies’ Class A all-events, respectively.

PBA-PSB’s Steve Robles, a longtime bowling fixture, still showed the way in the men’s Class A singles with a 663 output, BALP’s Edmon Lara was 13 pins behind in second spot (656) and AMBA’s Cesar Muere was running third (663).

Robles also landed the No. 1 spot in the men’s Graded masters qualifying by pooling 1,2331, PTBA’s Charles Tee was in second (1,198) and Lara third (1,190).

Also in the top 10 of the qualifiers were Muere, 4th, 1,178; SLETBA’s Justin Ko, 5th, 1,167; TBAM’s Kap Aguila, 6th; 1,165; BTBA-Prima-UC’s Nikko Go, 7th, 1,125; ATBA-FCO’s Ramil Cisneros, 8th, 1,109; ATBA’s Dennis Jalandoon, 9th, 1,103; and ITBA-Imus’ Larry Tinio, 10th, 1,090.
