Lagman earns slot in world junior golfest
MANILA, Philippines - John Lester Lagman came through with an eagle and a birdie in the last three holes to fire a 68 and gain a berth in the Junior World Golf Championships in San Diego set next month.
The flu-stricken Lagman actually defied his doctor’s order to rest as the 10-year-old nephew of Harbour Centre owner MIkee Romero bucked the odds to turn in a solid round and realize a dream to compete in the prestigious meet against the world’s leading jungolfers.
“I did not want to wait another year to qualify,” said Lagman, who failed to qualify for the San Diego event last year.
Lagman, a member of the Jungolfers League Team Navy, needed a birdie and two pars in the final three holes to make it to the RP team.
A member of the Jungolf Foundation of the Philippines, Lagman sizzled at the right time as he eagled the 16th and then birdied the 17th of the Manila Southwoods Legends course.
He also earned a spot in the RP team to the US Kids World Championship slated in North Carolina.
