MANILA, Philippines - RR Garcia cut loose in overtime, scoring 10 straight points as Far Eastern University thwarted Adamson University, 75-69, in their Final Four duel yesterday to remain on track of its title retention bid in the Filoil Flying V First Five Pre-Season Invitational Cup at The Arena in San Juan.

Garcia’s stirring run included back-to-back triples, lifting the Tamaraws to a 71-64 lead with 1:30 remaining in the contest. He sealed the victory for the defending champions with two free throws.

The win sent the Tams to their second straight championship appearance, this time against San Sebastian, which foiled Jose Rizal U, 55-49, in a low scoring contest in the other semis clash.

Calvin Abueva came away with a double-double game, firing 14 points and grabbing 14 rebounds, while Gilbert Bulawan and Ronald Pascual scored 14 points and 13 points, respectively, for the Stags.

“We had a good start and played aggressive defense,” said SSC coach Ato Agustin.

The reigning NCAA champions also bucked the absence of key players due to injuries as they hung tough in the clutch to pound out the victory.

“We were undermanned with the injuries to our big men. I appreciate the energy and effort of Calvin and the rest of the guys,” said Agustin.

The Falcons, who upended the Ateneo Blue Eagles in the quarterfinals, dispute third place with the Bombers.

The Falcons, behind Alex Nuyles and Eric Camson, actually took a 54-44 lead in the fourth. But the Tams rallied to force overtime at 63 on Noundou’s jumper.

“I’m proud of the boys. RR (Garcia) did a great job out there. He’s so talented,” said FEU coach Glenn Capacio.

Garcia finished with 22 points and Reil Cervantes added 21 for FEU.
