MANILA, Philippines - The National Collegiate Athletic Association kicks off its 86th season on June 26 with an explosive twinbill featuring defending champion and host San Sebastian against Letran and former titlist San Beda against Jose Rizal University at the Araneta Coliseum.
The Stags, mentored by Ato Agustin, will field in practically the same roster that foiled the Red Lions’ bid for a fourth straight championship last year when they square off with the Knights at 2 p.m. following an elaborate opening ceremonies featuring the parade of all nine participating schools.
“We’re all set and raring to go,” said NCAA Management Committee chair Frank Gusi of host San Sebastian.
San Beda and Jose Rizal U collide at 4 p.m. with the Red Lions out to regain the crown and the Bombers raring to improve on their Final Four finish last year.
Action shifts to The Arena in San Juan City on June 27 with Mapua tackling Perpetual Help at 2 p.m. and Arellano U and Emilio Aguinaldo College, now regular members on probationary status, facing off at 4 p.m.
