MANILA, Philippines - Peter Villaber charged home with a four-under par 68 but ran out of holes and settled for runner-up honors in Vietnam Amateur Golf Championship ruled by Thai Wasin Sripattanasorn at the Da Lat Golf Course in Vietnam yesterday.
It was Villaber’s third straight under-par card at the par-72 layout, including a 68 and 69 in the middle rounds, but his mediocre start of 73 told heavily in his title bid in Vietnam’s premier amateur tournament as Sripattanasorn bucked a so-so third round performance by matching the ICTSI bet’s closing output.
Villaber finished with a 10-under 278, four strokes behind Sripattanasorn, whose closing 68 gave him a winning 274 aggregate.
Malaysian Mohd Iszmail fired a tournament-best 63 but still fell short of his fightback at 279 for third while Johnson Poh shot a 69 for fourth at 283.
Another Thai bet Supakorn fired a 70 and finished fifth at 285 while Zanieboy Gialon, also of ICTSI-Philippines, wound up eighth at 293 after a second straight 75.
