MANILA, Philippines - Francis Casey Alcantara and Fil-Am partner Raymond Sarmiento bowed out of the French Open Juniors Championships, losing to Carlos Boluda-Purkiss of Spain and Alessandro Colella of Italy, 7-6 (4), 6-3, in the boys’ doubles event.
Alcantara and Sarmiento battled Purkiss and Colella in a tight contest in the opening set but were outplayed in the next and missed the quarterfinal round.
The win set up Boluda-Purkiss and Colella against second-seed Peter Heller and Kevin Krawietz of Germany, who dominated Lucas Szewczyk and Thomas Szewczyk of France, 6-1, 6-1.
Boluda-Purkiss and Colella actually made six double faults against Alcantara and Sarmiento’s four but had four aces and broke serve four times.
