MANILA, Philippines - A record turnout of kayakers, including a group of recreational athletes from Singapore, joined the Canon Power Shot Kayak Explore Anvaya Cove-Subic Bay in what could be a preview of a regional kayaking circuit set to start next year.

Co-hosted by Anvaya Cove and the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA), the two-day event featured a 25K kayak marathon for kayakers and a shorter novice race. Romeo Castro and Alexis Atutubo clocked a cumulative time of 3:48.35 to rule both legs.

Edward de Vera and Raven Cuan timed 3:58.59 to finish second while Anvaya Cove’s tandem of Ranessa Santos and Mark Broncales placed third in 4:00.07.

Meanwhile, Alfie and Lance Argana clocked 9:33 to top the two-heat novice race. Karen Miranda and Neil de la Merced finished second in 10:22 while Kate Edrosolam and Patrick Hong timed 10:48 for third.

The event was sponsored by R.O.X., Red Bull, Cebu Pacific, Mojos sandals, David’s Salon, Primer Group of Companies, Subic International Hotel, Caylabne Bay Resort, and supported by the Department of Tourism (DOT), Clark Freeport, and the Philippine Windsurfing Association.
