Jeson spills Serbian in French Open Jrs
MANILA, Philippines - Jeson Patrombon hurdled his opening round assignment in the French Open Juniors Championship, beating Serbian qualifier Miki Jankovic, 6-3, 6-1, in the singles tournament.
Patrombon broke serve five times during the match to easily dispose of Jankovic in straight sets and advance to the next round.
The 17-year-old Patrombon will next face ninth-ranked Duilio Beretta of Peru, who turned back wild card entry in Gregoire Barrere of France, 6-7 (5), 6-3, 8-6.
But while he gained in the singles, Patrombon faltered in the doubles as he and partner Ahmed Triki of Tunisia bowed to Romain Arneodo and Mathias Bourque of France, 4-6, 6-1, 14-12.
It was a sorry loss for the Patrombon-Triki duo, which took the first set but miserably lost the second before losing steam in a closely-fought deciding set that saw Arneodo and Bourque break only twice.
Meanwhile, Francis Casey Alcantara and Fil-Am Raymond Sarmiento open their campaign in the doubles competition today as they take on Filip Horansky and Jozef Kovalik of Slovakia.
