MANILA, Philippines - De La Salle University is leaving no stones unturned in its preparation for the hosting of the 73rd UAAP season, which also marks the start of the school’s yearlong countdown for its centennial celebrations.
In its third hosting of the UAAP since joining the varsity league in 1986, La Salle is looking to impressive show from Day One to the closing day of the season.
DLSU external affairs vice chancellor Bro. Bernie Oca, the current UAAP president, promised the 73rd season closing rites to be a big event.
“We want UAAP’s closing ceremonies to also be a big event for schools to recognize their being champions in their respective sports disciplines. There would be street dance and drumline competitions,” said Oca.
During yesterday’s media briefing at La Salle, Oca also announced that the season’s theme will be “Heroes.”
“We are coming from a successful national elections. Everyone is feeling hopeful and enjoying a renewed sense of optimism. The heroes theme is very apt, reminding everyone that the success of Team Pilipinas lies not only on leaders but on each and every citizen, in their capacity to become everyday heroes,” said Oca.
“I believe not one but many persons can do all the work to help the country become better. Through the UAAP, we want to help others discover within themselves that they can be heroes. We want others to know that there are heroes seen in the athletes because they give their all for goals and objectives bigger than their own,” Oca added.
“They have a vision where they give themselves wholeheartedly. And through them, we can be inspired. We want to help everyone to see that they are heroes and can participate in building our nation in the arena they are in.”
