John Hay hosts Asian ladies tilt

-

MANILA, Philippines - The Camp John Hay Golf Club will host the seventh Asian Ladies Team Championship on June 1-3 with a banner field, featuring the country’s leading and rising golfing ladies from various clubs and teams, clashing for top honors in various divisions in Baguio City.

Camp Aguinaldo I goes for back-to-back wins in the centerpiece Group I category as it tries to duplicate its 10-point romp over Valley Golf in last year’s staging of the four-to-play, three-to-count format event using the Molave scoring system.

Josie Untal, Matet Salivio, Karen Kime and Josefina Palumbarit pooled rounds of 132, 142 and 146 for a 420 aggregate in the 54-hole tournament, beating Valley Golf, which had a 410, and host John Hay I, which assembled a 384. Negros Occidental finished fourth with a 317.

Tagaytay Highlands also sets out the favorite in Group 2 after it fashioned out a 26-point romp over Riviera, 364-338, behind the efforts of Hedy See, Virginia Bote, Ma. Rosario Dimson and Deenna Mendiola.

Aguinaldo, led by Venus Hufalar, Edlyn Robas, Belen Ampong and Nitz Salivio, is likewise gunning for a second straight championship in Group 3, hoping to repeat its 311-293 victory over Camp John Hay 3.

Keen competition is seen in next week’s event with the rolling layout, situated 5,000 feet above sea level with crystal clear lakes and tall pine trees, expected to challenge the skills of the competing field.

Registration is ongoing with fees pegged at P45,000, inclusive of accommodation for four at John Hay Manor and practice round, and P25,000, exclusive of accommodation. For details, contact (+63-74) 444-2131 or fax (+63-74) 444-2132.

Practice round is set on Monday with the team captains meeting set at 5 p.m. at CJHGC clubhouse.
