Baby Tams, Eaglets enter Freego semis

MANILA, Philippines - Far Eastern University and Ateneo downed their respective rivals to advance to the semifinal round of the third Freego Filipino-Chinese Basketball League (FCBL) Cup at the Phil. Buddhacare Gym in Quezon City over the weekend.

The Baby Tams, with Austin Fabian, Mico Custodio and Mark Tanoy on the firing end, beat Jose Rizal U, 88-83, in the annual high school cagefest backed by Smart Communications..

Custodio added 21 points while Tanoy had 13 points as the Baby Tams thwarted the Light Bombers’ rally for a spot in the Final Four of the tournament backed by Mighty Sports, Colt Commercial, Star Galaxy Industrial Fabricator Inc., Powerbest Marketing Inc., Mandarin Sky Seafood & Shabu-Shabu Restaurant, Multimotors Auto Part Inc. and Apple Tape.

The Blue Eaglets, on the other hand, held off University of Santo Tomas, 82-69, to set up a semis duel with the Baby Tams.

Charles Dumrique scored 20 points as Ateneo led from start to finish to defeat the Tigers Cubs in their knockout match. Jay Javelosa added 17 points while Markus Mecado contributed 13 for the Loyola-based squad.
