Gomez sinks Bata; Django scores
MANILA, Philippines - Roberto Gomez bested Efren “Bata” Reyes, 9-6, to stay in contention in the US Open 10-ball Championship at the Riviera Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada Tuesday.
Gomez won the last three racks as he broke out of a 6-all count for the victory in the race to 9, winner’s break format.
Gomez, who beat Imrad Majid of Great Britain, 9-2, in the first round, takes on Jason Klatt of the US, who defeated compatriots Andrew Pettenger, 9-8, and Johnny Archer (9-4), respectively.
Francisco Bustamante, meanwhile, routed Toru Kuribayashi of Japan, 9-2.
The other RP bets with two victories were Lee Vann Corteza, Dennis Orcullo, Ronnie Alcano, Warren Kiamco and Al Lapena.
Corteza trounced Chris Bartram of the US, 9-5; Orcullo nipped John Morra of Canada, 9-3; Alcano waylaid Glenn Atwell of the US, 9-0; and Kiamco defeated Huidje See of the Netherlands, 9-2.
