Highlands sweeps Alabang

-

MANILA, Philippines - Tagaytay Highlands hacked out a convincing series sweep of Alabang to top the eliminations recently and clinch the top seeding in the forthcoming semifinals of 2010 Ladies Federation Golf League.

Highlands first claimed a bonus point in a 3.5-.5 victory at home then completed its annihilation of the Alabang squad with a 3-1 thumping when it visited the opponent’s lair the following week.

The Highlanders finished the double round-robin eliminations with the best record of six wins, a loss and three draws for 18 points, including three bonus points.

The back-to-back losses relegated Alabang to third spot, yielding the No. 2 spot to Manila Southwoods which beat Sta. Elena, 5-3, in their own home-and-away matchup.

Manila Southwoods wound up with 14 points on five wins and three draws against two losses while Alabang ended at 13 on four wins and two draws against four losses.

Sta. Elena barely claimed the fourth spot with nine points, edging defending champion Orchard which closed out its campaign with a 5.5-2.5 victory over Riviera but could only post eight points. The defending champs were going for a sweep against Riviera to forge a tie for the fourth spot and almost pulled it off.

In its last two matches, however, both the greensomes and best-ball ended up in draws and winning one of them could have given Orchard a shot at defending its crown.

The semifinals on May 13-14 will pit Highlands against Sta. Elena and Alabang versus Manila Southwoods. The winners clash for the crown on May 20-21.
