Buncio scores double in underbone series
MANILA, Philippines - Following his impressive feat in the Enersel Forte Superbikes, Maico Buncio of YRS-Elf Moto Oil-Yamaha hacked out another big win against the top guns recently in the 2010 Philippine Underbone King Championship series at the Batangas Racing Circuit in Rosario, Batangas.
Buncio captured the premier 150cc Open crown against equally talented rivals and pulled off a big escape in the 115cc Open class of this event sponsored by Enercel Forte, Pagcor Sports, municipality of Rosario Batangas Tourism Council, Aeromed, Chequered Flag, and Stoplight TV.
Experience was a big factor in his 150cc Open triumph as the final race was a complete turnaround from a dismal fifth place finish in the pre-finals behind winner Johnlery Enriquez and runner-up Jaime Barcial.
Determined, Buncio pulled ahead early from the pack and never looked backed from thereon. He clocked 12 minutes, 10.388 seconds in the six-lap race or 4.980 seconds ahead of Jaime Barcial who posted the fastest laptime of 2:01.132.
Paul Mark Doblada, another Suzuki rider, and teammate Enriquez checked in third and fourth, respectively, while Paulo Labador ended fifth.
Unlike his easy win in the 150cc Open, Buncio had a hard time warding off Enriquez and Doblada of Suzuki in the 115cc Open class as they diced against each other several times.
But Buncio’s defensive riding showed the way in the stretch. He claimed the checkered flag in 12 minutes, 50.790 seconds or 0.409 of a second ahead of Doblada.
Enriquez copped third place while Anthony Roman and Michael John Altamira wound up fourth and fifth, respectively.
Equally exciting was the 180cc Automatic Scooter where Cassey Ng of MTRT survived a close fight against four other riders trailing behind.
Ng finished the race in 17 minutes, 46.053 seconds to escape by just 0.439 of a second ahead of Paul Pangilinan and 0.678 of a second ahead of third placer Ivan Santiago.
Jeff Chan checked in fourth by just 0.761 of a second behind while Josh Reuben Tan took fifth place just 0.822 of a second shy.
Winning the other classes were Marvin Mangulabnan who turned back Gio Adriano and third placer Ralph Kenneth Torres in the 115cc. Super Stock and Anthony Roman who upstaged Buncio and Bryan Ortile in the 130cc Open class.
