Hope, SADP spikers clinch quarterfinal berths

MANILA, Philippines - Hope Christian School and San Antonio de Padua continued to dish out fine form as they beat their respective rivals to assure themselves of spots in the quarterfinal round of the Shakey’s Girls Volleyball League seventh season.

Hope dominated Angelicum, 25-17, 25-14, at the Arellano gym to annex its third straight victory in Bracket A while SADP also scored its third win in row with a 25-10, 25-16 romp over Diliman Prep. School in Bracket B.

University of Santo Tomas stayed in the hunt for a quarters seat as it stopped University of Perpetual Help-Laguna, 25-21, 27-25, for its second straight win Bracket C of the three-division tournament sponsored by Shakey’s Pizza and backed by Toby’s Sports, Dunkin’ Donuts, Mikasa and Asics. UPHL dropped to 2-1.

Meanwhile, the chase for QF berths is expected to heat up in the final elims playdate today with Hope and SAPD eyeing a sweep of their respective brackets and six other teams slugging it out for the four remaining berths.

Imus Institute also snapped UP Integrated School’s back-to-back wins as it fashioned out a 25-17, 25-20 victory to tie its victim in second in Bracket B while Angeles Univ. Foundation repulsed St. Scholastica, 25-18, 25-27, 25-12, to boost its bid in Bracket A with a 2-1 card.

St. Scholastica, which earlier dropped Angelicum, 25-18, 25-23, closed out with a 2-2 slate.

Miriam also kept its hopes alive by holding off UE, 25-19, 16-25, 25-12, for a 1-1 card in Bracket C.
