Nature Valley Run focuses on climate change

-

MANILA, Philippines - Nature Valley, a leading manufacturer of granola bars, will hold its first major sporting event dubbed The Nature Valley Run 2010 firing off May 30 at the Bonifacio Global City.

Tess Panganiban, general manager of General Mills, Inc., which owns Nature Valley, said the event is held not only to promote physical fitness and health but also to create awareness on the problems posed by climate change and what can be done to help in taking care of the environment.

“For every participant we draw, we plant one tree so imagine if we can get 7,000 to run we’ll have 7,000 new trees,” said Panganiban in yesterday’s media launch at the Dusit Hotel in Makati City.

Nature Valley has teamed up with race organizer and Boston Marathon finisher Rio dela Cruz in staging the event backed by Department of Environment and Natural Resources.

The run is an all-out effort to contribute to stopping the effects of climate change by re-planting hectares of land in the Ipo Watershed with the help of the “Dumagat” community.

Registration is ongoing at various Timex shops at SM North Edsa, SM Southmall, SM San Lazaro, Glorietta, Watch Republic, Robinsons Galeria and ROX Bonifacio High Street at The Fort. Fees are pegged at P400 (3k), P600 (5k and 10k) and P750 (21k) inclusive of race numbers, singlet, timing chip and Nature Valley loot bag.

and feet to run on that day. We believe small acts if put together can make a big difference,” said Diane Lyn Velasco, Nature Valley brand manager.

Over 7,000 participants, including professionals, foreigners, students and even weekend runners, are expected to participate in the event which features races in 3k, 5k, 10k and 21k.
