PSC, La Salle tie up for sports academy
MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Sports Commission and La Salle will sign a memorandum of agreement this week for the creation of the PSC-La Salle Sports Academy aimed at providing the country’s athletes a career in sports upon retirement.
PSC chair Harry Angping said that the academy would offer education and sports management and administration courses not only to athletes but to aspiring coaches, trainers, umpires, referees and others seeking a career in sports with courses in sports management and administration as well.
“With the academy, they will have a chance to acquire higher education in nearly everything about sports, including sports management,” said Angping.
The academy would be housed at the two towers of the Rizal Memorial track and field oval, which in turn will be transformed to a state-of-the-art football stadium soon.
Angping said he has sent the request to La Salle president Bro. Armin Luistro, FSC, as well as to Office of Sports Development head Bro. Bernie Oca, FSC, as early as last month for the official MOA signing.
“We want to give these former athletes a career in sports after serving the country. Majority of them wanted to remain in sports because it has been their way of life,” said Angping.
“By providing them with education through the academy, they would be equally productive and be able to serve the country even after retirement as coaches, trainers or even administrators,” he said.
