MANILA, Philippines - Tagaytay Highlands upended defending champion Orchard by winning at home and salvaging a draw in the away game recently to forge a share of the lead with Alabang in the Ladies Federation League matches in various recently.
After pulling off a 3-1 victory at its home course, Highlands relied on a big win by Hedy See and Tricia Maclang in the greensomes to force a 2-2 draw at Orchard and pull abreast with Alabang at 13 points heading into the last two playing dates of the eliminations.
Alabang lost its duel with Sta. Elena after a draw at home and a 1.5-2.5 defeat on the road.
Highlands and Alabang, however, are all but assured of semifinal slots as they lead Manila Southwoods by two points and Sta. Elena by five. Highlands and Alabang square off for the top seeding in the next two weeks in what could also be a preview of the championship.
The loss pushed Orchard on the brink of elimination. The Cavite squad only has 4 points in eight games and needs to sweep its series with Riviera to salvage the fourth and last semis ticket.
Riviera, however, is bidding for the same and actually carries a better chance than Orchard. In fifth place with 6 points, Riviera is battling Sta. Elena, which has a tough last round assignment in Southwoods, for the fourth spot.
