MANILA, Philippines - Jemuel Tantoy of Mandaluyong, Warren Boanag and Nilo Vidal beat their respective rivals to lead the winners in the PCSO Metro Manila Amateur Boxing Championships at the Cantada Sports Center in Taguig City over the weekend.
Tantoy defeated Wilson Tejada, Boanag bested Mark Lantayao while Vidal whipped Melvin Soriano, all in the 58-kg division of the event which drew aspiring fighters from Metro Manila.
Other winners in the tournament, sponsored by the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office, Tanduay and Cobra Energy Drink and presented by Joe Cantada Sports, were lightweight Argey Donato, powderweight Maria Rochelle Rico, lightflyweight William Sampiton, Ricky Blanda.
“They’re all raw, and we understand that since most of them have learned only the basics recently. But a lot of them showed some real potential and Joe Cantada Sports is predicting some of the names here will be in the national boxing team in the future,” said chief organizer Edgardo “Boy” Cantada.
Also winning their bouts were cottonweight Jimmy Oberos and Bienvenido Ligas, antweight’s Lester Cabawba, Ryan Concha, Joxel Enojo, Jay Adre Acilla, Vergara Obenza and Romeo Labra; mosquitoweights Philip Luis Cuerdo, Rino Torres, Reggie Ramos, lightpaperweights BJ Sampiton, Florencio Llamado, pinweights Jonas Bacho, John Carlo Magbanua and Gilbert Diorico;
Lightflyweights Ruel Javier and Joel Bacho, flyweights Jayson Seveda, Argie Zalate, Arfel Alopormina, Jony Solomon and Jonathan Ligas.
