Tiu grabs solo lead in drag race
ROSARIO, Batangas , Philippines – Defending champion Jonathan Tiu of JCT-Blanche Racing got back to his old familiar post following an impressive double victory recently in the fourth leg of the 2010 Magnolia Purewater National Drag Racing Championship Series at the Batangas Racing Circuit Drag Strip here.
Strategy played a big part in Tiu’s triumph as he let go his plans of setting a new record and focused more on winning both the premier Pro class and the Quick 8 titles of this event sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines and supported by San Miguel Corp., Yokohama Tires, Pagcor Sports, Aeromed, Chequered Flag and Stoplight TV.
He wrested solo lead in the Pro Class after clocking 10.851 seconds in the final showdown against Vanni Garcia of Vannitec (11.735).
Tiu now tallies 45 points, a slim five-point edge over teammate Anthony Go who ended third in 12.077 seconds.
It’s also the first time the same outcome happened in the Quick 8 division where Tiu and Garcia arranged a finals showdown beating separate rivals. Tiu bagged the first finals slot over teammate Anthony Go while Garcia turned back JM Dumaraos of Autokeep to earn the crack at the title.
