Zoleta triumphs

- Michelle Zoleta -

MANILA, Philippines - Top seed Bambi Zoleta survived a first-set scare and hung tough in the second frame to repulse Michelle Pang, 7-5, 6-4, and re-capture her singles crown in the third Alcala Open tennis tournament at the Quezon Capital Government Center in Lucena City yesterday.

Johnny Arcilla also scored a cliffhanger of a win over Elbert Anasta, 7-6(3), 7-6(5), to capture the men’s singles title in the annual tournament hosted by the Lucena Tennis Club and held in cooperation with the members of the Philippine Tennis Association.

Zoleta later teamed up with Pang to beat sisters Clarice and Christine Patrimonio, 4-6, 6-3, 10-4.

Ronald Joven and Rocky Paglalunan stunned Arcilla and former singles champion PJ Pierro, 5-7, 6-2, (10-7), to bag the men’s doubles plum.
