Boren impressive on borrowed car, eyes comeback
MANILA, Philippines - Driving an unfamiliar car, Pia Boren, supported by Aikka Paints, Hot Wheels, STP, Concept One and Atoy Body Kits, took fourth spot in the first leg of the Glade Sport Lateral Drift Championship Pro Am Series held recently at the Eastwood City Open Parking Lot.
Buoyed by her performance, Boren is aiming to improve on her feat when the second leg unfolds today also at the Eastwood City Open Parking Lot.
In the first leg, an engine change on Boren’s car took longer than anticipated, forcing her to drive the Nissan Cefiro A31 of Atoy Llave instead. Unfazed by the last-minute change, the former touring car champion qualified second out of 23 competitors in the amateur division. In the tandem runs, she ruled the top 16, entered the top eight before finally landing in fourth.
“Driving Atoy’s car turned out to be a good thing because it was set up perfectly for the track. It was as if I had been driving it all my life,” she said. “I also got a lot of encouragement from the crowd during all my runs and it felt great to make the fans happy. Hopefully, they’ll come and support the next leg as well. I’m aiming for an overall podium finish and if last weekend is any indication, it’s a big possibility this season. It was a good start and with the continued support of my sponsors, it will only get better,” Boren added.
