MANILA, Philippines - Veteran runners Alley Quisay and Nhea-An Barcena yesterday ruled the 10K event of the 2010 SlimmeRun at the Bonifacio Global City in Taguig.
Quisay capitalized on a miscue by erstwhile co-leader Irinio Raquin near the finish line to claim the top prize of P6,000. Quisay said Raquin, who was ahead by a few meters, missed a corner turn 1.5 kilometers away from the finish line. Quisay then took advantage by grabbing the lead for good and crossing the finish line in 32 minutes, 30 seconds.
“He should have taken the turn but he went straight ahead,” said Quisay, who also received gift packages from other sponsors and gift certificates from David’s Salon and Dental First.
Raquin came in five seconds behind Quisay while Gerald Sabal clocked 34:57 to claim third. The distaff side was won by Barcena, who led from start to finish in 40:43.
Barcena’s nearest pursuer was Mischelle Gilbuena (40:53) while third was Kenyan Susan Jemutai (44:23).
In the men’s 5K Jujet de Asis outsprinted Michael Bacong down the wire to pocket the top prize of P4,000.
Keeping pace with Bacong for most of the race, De Asis surged ahead in the last kilometer, outsprinting his rival in the last meters to win in 14:53. Bacong timed 14:55 for second place while Darwin Lim timed 15:03 for third.
The women’s 5K run was won by 12-year-old Michelle de Vera (19:34) who outpaced 23-year-old Adjennie delos Santos (20:19) and 40-year-old Merlyn Lumagbas (21:17).
Gracing yesterday’s event were the official candidates of the Miss Bikini Philippines 2010 and celebrity runner Tessa Prieto.
Topping the men’s 3K side event were Justine Tabunda (9:15), Kimbert Sarmiento (9:42) and Jonathan Galo (9:42) while Christine Delfin (11:27), Leonalyn Raterta (12:46) and Emily Lucero (13:06) were the women’s top three finishers.
The official water provider for the 2010 SlimmeRun is Fuji Water while the official sports drink is Pocari Sweat.
