MANILA, Philippines - Adventure sportsman Thumbie Remigio has been tasked to plan and supervise the Laguna de Bay Ultra Marathon Relay Race set May 1 and 2.
Remigio, a registered nurse, multi- titled duathlete, frisbee competitor and veteran race course designer and director, has designed a challenging 212-kilometer race route which starts at the Ortigas Frontera Verde, then pushesto Santa Cruz, Laguna and finishes at the Tiendesitas.
The event is expected to bring out the best of each runner as well as the teamwork and strategy of five male and female runners and their team support.
Event partners Laguna Lake Development Authority general manager Edgardo Manda and Laguna de Bay Conservation Society chaired by environmentalist Bebet Gozun said Remigio is up to the task.
LLDA has staged adventure events and bike caravans around the Laguna de Bay.
The relay race, held in conjunction with Earth Day, aims to generate greater awareness of the ecological status of the Laguna Lake and its watershed areas as well as the role the community plays for its upkeep.
Twenty-two teams have so far made formal reservations. Deadline for entry submission is April 16.
