UE forms elem team

MANILA, Philippines - For the first time in its sports history, the University of the East, through UE Junior Warriors coach Mark Herrera, is forming a basketball team for elementary kids, 12 years old and under, from the UE elementary department and other schools.

Called “UE Kid Warriors”, the players will participate in the upcoming Coach-E summer basketball tournament set this month and the Milo BEST Small Basketeers this summer.

As part of his basketball program for kids, Herrera, the RP Under-13 head coach and assistant mentor of the UE Warriors and the Cobra team in the PBL, will be training the kids to develop their skills for the junior leagues.

They are Ricci Rivero, Joshua Santos, Paulo Malones, Joshua Lanuza, Marty Veloso, Ralph German, Luis Clarino, Justine Arellano, Neil Mendoza, Karl Bautista, Jefferson Osal and Ricky Venturina.

“These leagues will prepare my newly formed team for the more competitive junior leagues in the future. This age group is the ideal level where we can effectively train and teach all the basic fundamentals of basketball,” said Herrera, also the coach of three-peat Batang PBA champion Talk N Text-QC junior team.

Herrera, who is supported by the UE staff and management, is assisted by Benjie Diswe and Edwin Ancheta.
