Solar, Golden Boy to air super bouts

MANILA, Philippines - Two of the major sports outfits from both ends of the world joined forces together in bringing before millions of Filipino households some of the biggest boxing fights scheduled for this year.

Solar Sports and Solar TV recently struck a one-year output deal with Golden Boy Promotions, giving the country’s No. 1 sports and entertainment channel the exclusive rights to air all matches presented by the promotional group ring great Oscar De La Hoya headed.

Already in the can is the highly anticipated showdown between World Boxing Association (WBA) welterweight champion Sugar Shane Mosley and unbeaten challenger Floyd Mayweather Jr. as they slug it out on May 1 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada in a bout pitting two of the top pound-for-pound fighters in the world today.

A six-time world champion, Mayweather is 40-0, with 25 KOs, and will be fighting just in his second outing after coming out of a self-imposed retirement last year.

Mosley (46-5, 39 KOs), is defending the 147-pound title belt he won by way of a technical knockout in the ninth round against Mexican Antonio Margarito in January of 2009.

Dubbed “Who R U Picking?,” the 12-round title fight certainly has created a lot of stir not only to Filipinos, but to millions of boxing fans around the world as the winner is likely to face boxing icon and pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao.

The showdown between the two American top fighters is expected to get a lot more of hype when HBO Sports begins to air its award-winning 24/7 reality program.

The four-episode, all-access series – the eight boxing installment of HBO Sports’ Emmy award winning show – to be aired too, on Solar Sports and Solar TV, will provide exclusive, behind-the-scenes access, along with in-depth interviews as the two fascinating personalities prepare for the first mega-fight of the decade.
