Gacho sisters top Smart jr netfest

MANILA, Philippines - Sisters Chelsea and Kyle Gacho dominated their respective divisions and went on to sweep three titles in the Smart/Head Junior Tennis Satellite Circuit at the Zamboanga Lawn Tennis center in Zamboanga City recently.

Chelsea bested her rivals to capture the 14-under and 16-under crowns while Kyle toppled her opponents to bag the 18-under diadem in the second leg of the ranking tour presented by tennis patron Manny V. Pangilinan of Smart Sports in cooperation with Head, Chris Sports, Meralco and Toalson.

Chelsea completed her romp with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Shy-Mae Gitalin in the 14-under finals, and a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Danisse Peña to clinch the 16-under plum.

Kyle, on the other hand, trounced Peña, 6-2, 6-4, in the 18-under finals.

Chelsea, together with top boys’ player Jan Jeric Accion received tennis equipment and cellphones.

Accion topped the 14-under boys category, outlasting Hakeem Cariga of Lanao del Sur, 7-6, (7-4), 6-3, to earn ranking points from the Philippine Tennis Association and secure a seat in the Junior Tennis Masters slated at the end of the year.

Carlo Nono, meanwhile, took the 16-under boys crown with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Juan Paolo Cansino of Davao City.
